A Message from our Pastor
I give thanks for
our shared journey of faith. It is a privilege to walk this
path with each of you. As part of the body of Christ called
United Methodist in San Benito, God is moving in our midst.
We find ourselves at an
historic crossroad. It is here that we pause. We pause
to honor all the saints of this church that have come before us.
Because they had faith and were willing to live it, we have faith.
We are the recipients of their great faith, trust and love in Jesus
Christ. Truly, we owe them a debt, because we stand on the
shoulders of greatness. The only way we can preserve this
powerful faith is not by just lifting up the past, but by
remembering the faithful actions of the past and honoring those
faithful actions with our own faithful actions.
This is an exciting
time in our church. We stand on the cusp of who God has called
us to be and more importantly who God is calling us to be now.
The same fears and frustrations that we deal with are the same fears
and frustrations that our fore-mothers and fore-fathers dealt with
as well. The context of the problem has changed, but
overcoming that same fear has not. Our answer must be the same
as their answer. We must step out in faith. If we need
to be bold and ask our friends and neighbors to come to church, then
we'll do it. If we need to upgrade and update our existing
building, then we'll do it. If we need to build a new
building, the we'll do it. First and foremost, we do it
because of our love in Jesus Christ. Secondly, we do it to
honor the sacrifices of the saints who have come before us.
My desire for this
church is to bring the future to fruition. First, we need to
pray in order to understand what God is calling us to do.
Secondly, we must collectively discern that call. Thirdly, we
must take action.
My friends, we are
ready. We are ready because God is the one who has prepared
us. together let us continue on our journey of faith.
Together let us step into our God-given future.
